Bauhaus 3D Printer Workshop

Pitkin County Library

Location: Pitkin County Library Times: 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Take home a Herbert Bayer Bauhaus inspired 3D print. In a one hour session you can learn how to use the Pitkin County Library’s 3D printer and about the influence the Bauhaus and Herbert Bayer had on our culture and community. Shannon Foster will available on the 4th Friday of every month from 12-4:00 in our Maker Space lab to guide you through this process. The Aspen Contemporary Ensemble Presents - KURT WEILL: Four Walt Whitman Songs

The Aspen Contemporary Ensemble, conducted by Donald Crockett, performs Kurt Weill’s Four Walt Whitman Songs for baritone and piano, as well as Crockett’s own And the River… and Brahms’ Piano Quartet No. 3 in C minor.  Kurt Weill was born in Dessau (once home to the Bauhaus) in 1990 and participated in Bauhaus-Week, “Celebration of New Music” in 1923.

Tickets are $45.

The 100th Anniversary of the Bauhaus is one of the great cultural events of 2019. In this workshop, we celebrate the Bauhaus design school from Germany and become inspired by Bauhaus art and ideas. We discover the great artists who helped define Bauhaus principles, such as Paul Klee, Wassily Kandinsky, Oskar Schlemmer and Herbert Bayer, who later in his career had an influential impact on Aspen, Colorado. Students use a wide range of artistic mediums and engage in processes integral to the Bauhaus such as drawing, collage, graphic design, color theory and more! Students create wildly creative 2-D and 3-D works of art that celebrate 100 years of Bauhaus.

Bauhaus Architectural Walking Tour with Aspen Historical Society

Location: Red Brick Center for the Arts Times: 10:30 am - 12:30 pm

Join Aspen Historical Society for a walking tour to explore examples of bauhaus principles that continue to inspire local design, including one of Herbert Bayer’s former residences, as well as styles introduced by Bayer that have influenced area architects for decades. This tour supplements the AHS exhibit “bayer & bauhaus: how design shaped aspen”, on display at the Wheeler/Stallard Museum. The tour was created in partnership with local architect Harry Teague and made possible in part by the City of Aspen in honor of the community-wide bauhaus 100: aspen celebrations.

Aspen Historical Society Exhibit Summer Celebration & Free Admission Day

The community is invited to a summer splash for the exhibit “bayer & bauhaus: how design shaped aspen” in the Wheeler/Stallard Museum as well as an opening of the new photographic display in the Archive Building Community Gallery featuring images by Margaret and Dick Durrance that were recently donated to the AHS Collection. This free event will include tours of the exhibit and display and light refreshments.
