Downtown Aspen was transformed into a winter wonderland during the 68th annual Wintersköl™ as teams competed in Anderson Ranch Arts Center’s Wintersculpt competition. Teams of adults and middle school students from all over the Roaring Fork Valley spent 48 hours transforming an 8’ or 4’ cube of snow into a freestanding sculpture.
To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Bauhaus movement, sculptures were to be inspired by Bauhaus design principles and highlight the lasting influence Bauhaus has on contemporary art, architecture, and graphic design. Each team had their own interpretation of this and we absolutely loved watching the snow cubes turn into unique geometric and beautiful sculptures!
The judges based their decisions on overall creativity, design concept and technical execution. First place was awarded $300 and four single day lift tickets to Aspen Snowmass, second place was presented with $200 and two single day lift tickets to Aspen Snowmass and third place took home a $100 gift certificate to the ArtWorks store at Anderson Ranch.
It was a fun and competitive two days of sculpting. Team Peak Season took home the grand prize for their sculpture titled “Futura!” We are already looking forward to next year!
